Ingredients

  • 1 cup of chapati flour
  • 0.5 cups of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 0.5 handful of plain flour

Method

  1. Rub the oil into the flour (squeezing tightly)
  2. Add the water a little at a time to make the dough soft (the dough should be quite wet - soft and slightly sticky)
  3. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes and cover with a thin layer of oil
  4. Leave in an airtight container for at least 15 minutes to an hour
  5. Heat a small frying pan on a medium to high heat (8) - note - no oil
  6. Split the mixture into 6 parts
  7. Roll each piece of dough into a small ball, coat in a little flour and squash in your hands
  8. Put the plain flour on the surface and roll into a disc the size of the frying pan
  9. Put the dough into the pan, turn after 10s, then turn occasionally until brown (not black!) spots appear on both sides
  10. Wrap in foil while making the remaining chapatis
  11. Serve with soup or curry
